The Mavrogiannis Estate is located in the heart of the Strofylia National Park in the Peloponnese, on the slopes of Mount Movri. Founded in 1967 by Panagiotis Mavrogiannis, it subsequently passed to Dionysis Mavrogiannis—the winery’s oenologist and agronomist—and today continues its dynamic course under the management of the second and third generations: Eleni Mavrogianni-Papanikolaou and her daughter, Theodora, standing as a modern example of female presence in the winemaking sector. With deep respect for nature and tradition, the winery focuses on showcasing indigenous grape varieties and the region’s unique terroir.
Vineyard cultivation relies on holistic management, ensuring ecosystem balance and high grape quality. The vineyards’ distinctive location at the foothills of Mount Movri offers natural protection against extreme weather conditions. Their southern exposure and low altitude ensure abundant sunlight, contributing to uniform and early grape ripening. We primarily cultivate native Greek varieties that thrive in our region—such as Roditis, Roditis Alepou, Muscat of Hamburg, Muscat of Rio (Moschoudi) PGI Achaia, Mavrodaphne, Avgoustiatis, Santameriana, and Vertzami—as well as Cabernet.
Santameriana—a rare, indigenous local variety that had vanished for decades—is a key element of the Mavrogiannis Estate’s identity. Over the past ten years, the winery has systematically invested in its revival, employing low-intervention techniques. The first label was released in 2024, authentically expressing the variety’s character and its unique terroir. The winery holds ISO 9001 and ISO 22000 certifications, and all its wines are vegan, meeting modern standards for quality and sustainability.

As part of the agricultural industry, we fully depend on our surrounding, just as it depends on us. That’s why we grow our produce organically and sustainably. Over the past decades the carbon footprint of the winery has been positive, which is something we’re really proud of.
